When I was at school a career in ‘tech’ was definitely not an option I’d ever considered or even knew existed (I thought IT support was basically as good as it got, no offense I’ve done tech support and loved it!) but computers had only just started entering our classrooms. We were taught how to send emails and open Microsoft PowerPoint so I never realised how broad the tech industry actually was and instead I went down a completely different career path (see my LinkedIn profile if you’re curious)
I’m therefore incredibly grateful that I sort of stumbled into software testing and that someone took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity to shine.
I’ve now been a software test engineer for over 4 years and I can honestly say I love what I do. I’m based in Cornwall but work remotely for a fintech for good company, and previously I worked within the medical field.
It’s a role which allows me to keep learning, keep being curious, and keep using my naturally analytical mind.
It’s also something I would love to shout about to young women to show them they have these options too!
