Having worked in tech/digital roles for over 20 years, I’ve seen first hand how there is a gender imbalance in the workplace. My previous jobs have been about delivering change and transformation and now I’m applying these skills to change gender diversity in the very sector in which I’ve built my career. I work for TECwomen which exists to inspire more girls and women to participate in t.e.c (tech, engineering, creative) related activities, subjects and careers. My role as Head of Delivery is to turn our ideas for participation into a reality so that we can make a real impact towards having a more diverse tech/digital workforce.
My background prior to TECwomen, has been in Business Analysis leadership, working for brands such as Orange, Virgin Media and Lloyds Banking Group. I’ve also held IT delivery and IT leadership roles at Cornwall Council. I continue to keep my business analysis skillset active as I’m also a mentor for apprentice Business Analysts starting out on this career path. I also offer consultancy on setting up a new BA Practice or performing a health check on an existing practice.
In June 2022, I produced the Digital Skills Report for the CIOS Digital Skills Partnership which presented recommendations to tackle the tech recruitment crisis. I have used this knowledge of the tech/digital eco-system in Cornwall to create course content for women on the digitalUPLIFT programme who want to know more about the opportunities for jobs in this growing sector.
With any free time (!), I’m a STEM ambassador and I coach a Year 6 First Lego League team in my home town of Falmouth. I’ve seen first-hand how it can change the lives of young people and grow their skills and confidence.
