I am a Lead Full Stack Developer at Shift, based in Royal William Yard in Plymouth. I manage a small team within the larger tech department and I find the role is a good balance of being able to share knowledge and help newer developers, and also still get my hands dirty with code.
I’ve always loved working with the web, I like how accessible it is to everyone and how fast things can change, I like to learn and I like to share.
Over the years I have worked with lots of different web stacks across logistics, local government, higher education services, Insurtech and supporting clinical research. I have a scientific background and particularly enjoy analysing clinical data and working with data scientists to solve business problems. I like smaller companies, where the development team supports the core company function, and you can see the direct impact of your work.
I think it’s important to encourage people from different backgrounds into the industry, so even though I don’t enjoy being on stage, I’ve tried to be visible in the tech community (helping with my local PHP user group) and education (volunteering with Code Club). I think communities like this are really essential and I am excited to be part of it!
When I’m not coding, I enjoy gardening, sewing and reading fantasy novels. I think that I just like to make things, which is something I’ve found resonates with other women in tech 🙂
