I’m a Platform developer working with Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, etc. I started out as a Python developer but pivoted to infrastructure in order to pursue the parts of development that interest me most.
I’m a bootcamper. I learned the basics of software development at Makers in London over a 4 month period before finding a job in Bristol to be closer to Cornwall and work in an interesting non-profit. I’ve since worked at various companies that broadly align with my values over the past 6 years. Becoming fully remote since the pandemic has allowed me to return to my roots in Cornwall, though Bristol is a truly phenomenal city that I miss dearly and will always have a place in my heart.
Before getting into software development I got myself a degree in Biological Anthropology which spiked my interest in the intersections between science, human diversity, and social justice. After my degree I had various jobs broadly focused on community support, especially in providing education and outreach for young people focused on harm-reduction and empowerment like healthy relationships and sex education, and advice and information about safety with drugs and alcohol. I also worked in my local community library just before starting my bootcamp journey, and found it extremely eye opening when it comes to accessibility and equitable use of technology and how that can affect people’s lives in ways many could never predict.
I’m pretty passionate about improving access to opportunity and overall quality of life for the people of Cornwall. Escaping the poverty trap and reversing the brain drain that drags people out of Cornwall is so critical with all the compounding crises currently affecting us. If sharing my knowledge and experience could help, count me in.
